Weight loss is usually achieved by dieting, exercising, and undergoing surgery. However, weight loss can also be achieved through hypnosis. Yes, as weird as it may sound, weight loss by hypnosis is possible. In fact, a lot of people find it safe, easy, and effective. According to the Journal of Clinical Psychology, hypnosis has proven to be effective in weight loss for some people. Many of those desiring to lose weight are struggling with unhealthy food choices.

Through hypnosis, these people are guided toward choosing the right options. Their eating patterns are recalibrated; and as a result, they become more practical when it comes to choosing which food to eat. You should know that the primary objective of hypnosis is to change the attitude or perspective of a person in a certain situation. When you choose weight loss by hypnosis, you will be given a look, feel, and taste of an alternative reality.


This is to let your subconscious mind realize that there are other options aside from the one that it has been used to. Your subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between reality and fantasy. So when you introduce it to a new perspective, it can broaden its outlook quickly. However, you should keep in mind that hypnosis is not magic. It is simply psychotherapy. It may or may not work for you.

If you are submissive, hypnosis will easily work for you; but if you are resistant, it may not work at all. In addition, even though hypnosis is an excellent aid in weight loss, you should not rely on it alone. According to Dr. David Katz, a professor at Yale University and an ABC medical contributor, hypnosis is not the sole solution for weight loss and weight control. In order for you to achieve your desired weight, you should also maintain proper diet and exercise.

Anyway, amongst the major ways that a hypnotherapist starts to alter the perspective of the subject is through disassociation. Oftentimes, people have this strong inclination to associate themselves with the images and thoughts that go through their minds. Once they undergo hypnosis, they become capable of disassociating themselves from the thoughts. Hence, they begin to realize that they are the observers of these thoughts and not the thoughts themselves.
